Women Empowerment Takes Center Stage in Lagos Mainland

In a display of community development and female empowerment, Lagos Mainland Local Government, in partnership with NEMAPP/SPEED UP LAGOS, celebrated the graduation of over 50 women from an intensive two-week Vocational Skills Acquisition Training Program. The ceremony, held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Council Secretariat, marked a significant milestone in the local government’s commitment to equipping women with practical skills for economic independence.

The program, designed to address the evolving role of women in society, focused on providing participants with valuable vocational skills. Recognizing that not all women will secure white-collar jobs, this initiative aims to create pathways to financial independence and additional income streams for those already engaged in business.

Hon. (Mrs) Omolola Rashidat Essien, the Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, delivered an inspiring address to the graduates. She emphasized the importance of putting their newly acquired skills into practice, urging them not to let their knowledge remain idle. “What you have learned should not be kept under the cupboard or on a shelf,” she advised, encouraging the women to leverage their new skills to establish businesses and develop effective marketing strategies.

Mrs. Ajola, the Supervisor for WAPA, reinforced this message, stressing the importance of consistency, diligence, and hard work in building successful businesses. Her words served as a motivational call to action for the graduates as they prepare to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

The event showcased the practical nature of the training, with graduates proudly demonstrating their products and production processes. This hands-on display not only highlighted the skills acquired but also the potential for these women to contribute significantly to the local economy.
