Lagos Launches Ogunnusi Road Expansion: Motorists Advised to Plan Alternative Routes

The Lagos State Government has commenced Phase I of the reconstruction and expansion of Ogunnusi Road in Ikeja Local Government Area, a project that is already reshaping daily commutes for thousands of residents across the Ojodu-Berger and Agege corridors. The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has issued a comprehensive traffic diversion plan covering the 4.5-kilometre first phase, which runs from Ojodu-Berger Bus Stop to the Mobil Filling Station Junction along the Ijaye/Agege bound route. The overall project, spanning approximately 9 kilometres, is expected to transform the road into a full dual carriageway when complete, significantly improving traffic flow in one of Lagos’s most congested inland arteries. Motorists have been urged to follow directional signage, comply with instructions from traffic officers deployed along the corridor and allow extra travel time, particularly during peak hours. This road rehabilitation is part of a broader programme of infrastructure works currently underway across Lagos, including ongoing improvements along the Lekki-Ajah corridor. Traffic management specialists have advised that early morning departures — before 6.30 a.m. — will help commuters avoid the worst of the construction-related disruptions, whilst evening travellers are encouraged to consider using the BRT where available.
