Fani-Kayode Slams Momodu Over Tinubu-Abacha Comparison, Questions ADC’s Credibility

A sharp exchange has erupted between two of Nigeria’s most recognisable political voices, after former Aviation Minister and Ambassador-designate to Germany, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, publicly rebuked media mogul and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, over remarks that drew a pointed parallel between President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the military regime of the late General Sani Abacha.

The controversy was ignited during Momodu’s appearance on ‘Politics Today’, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television on Sunday, where he described President Tinubu’s leadership style as dictatorial — a characterisation that Fani-Kayode found both unjust and deeply offensive.

Responding swiftly via his X account, Fani-Kayode described Momodu’s remarks as evidence of a “degenerating and worrisome level of cognitive dissonance,” adding that his fellow commentator had “sounded drained, tired and broken” throughout the interview.

Despite the stinging rebuke, the tone carried a curious warmth. Fani-Kayode acknowledged his personal respect for Momodu but expressed profound disappointment at the tone and substance of the interview. He further accused Momodu of disrespecting not only the President but the Vice President, ministers, senators, and newly appointed ambassadors — many of whom, he argued, possessed considerably greater governance experience.

Turning his attention to the ADC, Fani-Kayode urged the party to focus on building a credible opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, rather than fixating on attacks against the ruling administration.

In a moment blending politics with poetry, Fani-Kayode appealed to Momodu to defect to the ruling APC, comparing his current position in the ADC to that of a flamingo trapped among crows and vultures. “You are far too good for the company you keep,” he concluded.
